Olympic Council of Asia: Will Remain in Memory

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) expressed its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and to Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, on the passing of the former Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In a statement, the OCA said: “With profound sorrow and grief, we have received the news of the passing of the former Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.”

The statement added: “On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Asian Olympic Movement, the OCA extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, member of the International Olympic Committee and President of the General Assembly of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and to Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, as well as to the esteemed Al Thani family, the people of the State of Qatar, and to all who had the honor of knowing and working with the late Amir, may God have mercy on him.”

The statement clarified: “The late Amir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may God have mercy on him, will remain present in our memories for his dedication and wisdom, and for the great services he rendered to the people of the State of Qatar. He was known for his steadfast commitment to the development of sports and his belief in their role as a means of building human potential and promoting the values of peace, health, and well-being in society.”
