Zelensky announces cabinet reshuffle including the prime minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced yesterday a major cabinet reshuffle, proposing to replace Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and the heads of several law enforcement agencies. Zelenskyy did not announce who would replace Svyrydenko, nor did he clarify the reasons for the reshuffle. In a post on the X platform, he said, “I am grateful to Svyrydenko for her clear, steady, and effective work as Prime Minister, and for her years of fruitful service within the Ukrainian team. I have offered her the opportunity to lead a new and important area in relations with a key partner.” He added, “I expect that, together with members of parliament, we will make the necessary changes in the government of Ukraine. There will also be changes in the heads of law enforcement agencies.” Zelenskyy had appointed Svyrydenko as head of government last year. In another post on X, Zelenskyy outlined a number of tasks that Ukraine must undertake, particularly making progress toward joining the European Union and strengthening its border regions. He said he plans to appoint different people to manage various areas of foreign policy. He added, “We have decided that these changes require renewing the Cabinet of Ministers,” noting that cabinet reshuffles require parliamentary approval.
