Scaloni: Historic achievement despite the hardship

Argentina national team head coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed that his side faced a tough test against Switzerland, noting that reaching the World Cup semi-finals represents a historic achievement, despite acknowledging areas that require improvement.

Speaking in comments relayed by the Argentine newspaper Olé after the match, Scaloni said, “We suffered greatly during the game, and we knew in advance that Switzerland is a physically strong team that excels in handling difficult situations.” He added, “We must acknowledge that luck was on our side, especially after one of Switzerland’s players was sent off, which gave us an advantage and allowed us to impose our attacking style. There are still aspects that need improvement, but ultimately, winning is the most important objective.”

The Argentine coach pointed out that reaching the semi-finals is a significant milestone, stating, “Even if we are capable of delivering a better performance, reaching the World Cup semi-finals again is a historic achievement for this team.”

Regarding the upcoming match, Scaloni clarified that he prefers not to focus on the identity of the opponent, emphasizing that the national team is prepared for any challenge. He also praised the English national team and its manager Thomas Tuchel, stressing that the current priority is for the players to regain their fitness. The Argentine national team is scheduled to face England in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.
