Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirm support for mediation, resumption of US-Iran talks, and de-escalation of tensions

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the call discussed recent developments amid the escalating tensions in the region, emphasizing the need to support mediation efforts, restore US-Iranian talks, and contain tensions, as well as to make necessary efforts to reach comprehensive, peaceful solutions that enhance regional and international security and stability.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that both sides expressed deep concern over the escalation in the Middle East, despite the signing of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” between the United States and Iran. The statement noted that the two ministers agreed that the resumption of conflict serves no party’s interests and undermines efforts to achieve regional peace and stability.

For his part, Ishaq Dar renewed his country’s call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and allow sufficient time and space for mediation efforts to achieve a peaceful and effective outcome.
