Global initiative to select the New Seven Wonders of the World... Public invited to participate

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched an international initiative to select the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, calling on the global public to nominate the most prominent landmarks built since 1801 that have contributed to enhancing tourism and development and showcasing destinations on a global scale. According to Euronews, the initiative aims to highlight landmarks that combine architectural and cultural value with economic and social impact. The selection process is based on criteria that include the landmark being man-made, dating from the modern era, and playing a significant role in stimulating tourism and supporting local communities, with the opportunity to nominate both well-known and lesser-known sites. Examples cited by the campaign include the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. The initiative will proceed through several stages, beginning with the acceptance of nominations, followed by the announcement of a preliminary list of 70 landmarks in January 2027, which will then be narrowed down to 30 candidates in April, before the final list of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World is revealed in July 2027, following the completion of voting and evaluation phases.
