GCC Council Welcomes US Announcement to Begin Procedures for Removing Syria's State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation

Jassim Al-Bedaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the announcement by the United States of America regarding the initiation of procedures to remove the Syrian Arab Republic from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, expressing his hope that this step would contribute to supporting international and regional efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in Syria.

In a statement released by the Council’s General Secretariat, Al-Bedaiwi also expressed his hope that this move would serve as a catalyst for strengthening international cooperation with Syria, thereby supporting its efforts to restore its regional and international standing and advancing its security, development, and prosperity. Al-Bedaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s firm and consistent position in support of Syrian unity, the preservation of its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and the rejection of any interference in its internal affairs, emphasizing the importance of continuing these efforts to ensure a prosperous future for the brotherly Syrian people.
