France surpasses Morocco to reach the World Cup semifinals

France advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-finals at Gillette Stadium in Boston, United States. The tournament is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Les Bleus will face the winner of the Spain vs. Belgium match in the semifinals, scheduled for next Tuesday.

France striker Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty kick in the 28th minute after Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a spectacular save.

Les Bleus opened the scoring through Kylian Mbappé in the 60th minute, and Ousmane Dembélé added a second goal for France in the 66th minute.

With his goal against Morocco, Mbappé reached eight goals in the current World Cup, sharing the top scorer position with Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Mbappé’s total World Cup goal tally across all his appearances now stands at 20, leaving him one goal behind the all-time leading scorer, Lionel Messi, who has 21.
