OpenAI Prepares to Launch GPT-5.6 Globally Amid Rising AI Competition

OpenAI announced that it will begin making its new GPT-5.6 model available to the public on Thursday, a move that reflects the accelerating global competition in artificial intelligence technologies.

According to the French news agency AFP, the launch follows a limited beta phase restricted to a small number of partners in the United States, amid media reports indicating that the necessary regulatory procedures for a broader rollout have been completed.

The new series includes three models: Sol as the flagship model, Terra for everyday use, and Luna, which focuses on speed and cost reduction. The company stated that the models will be gradually made available to users worldwide, noting that the cost of running the Terra model will be approximately 50% lower than that of the previous version, GPT-5.5.

The announcement comes amid intensifying competition with other companies in the AI sector, alongside ongoing debates over regulatory frameworks and cybersecurity concerns related to advanced models. US authorities continue to work on developing standards to regulate the release of certain high-capability models, while the company emphasizes its cooperation with relevant authorities to establish a clear mechanism for future launches.
