Gulf Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security Discuss Study on Establishing Strategic Storage Zones

Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, Minister of State for Development and Sustainability, chaired the State of Kuwait delegation participating in the extraordinary meeting of ministers responsible for agriculture and food security in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held via video conferencing under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the presiding GCC state.

The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition stated in a press release that the meeting discussed the implementation of directives from GCC leaders regarding the study of establishing strategic GCC food storage zones and reserves for basic needs, thereby enhancing Gulf food security and raising the readiness of GCC member states to confront challenges and crises related to supply chains.

The statement noted that recommendations pertaining to the meeting were adopted, which enhance Gulf integration in strategic sectors and strengthen the food security system in GCC member states.

The Kuwaiti delegation participating in the meeting included the Director General of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition on secondment, the Director General of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fisheries on secondment, the Director of the Food Safety Department, and the Director of the Food Security Department.
