The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulqader Al-Husri, announced the second extension of the period for exchanging the new currency for the old one. He stated that the extension covers an additional 30 days, running from June 1 to June 30 of next year.
Al-Husri clarified in a post on his Facebook page on Friday that this extension aims to provide a greater opportunity to complete the exchange process easily and flexibly, which will be conducted exclusively through the branches of operating banks and in accordance with the conditions and regulations to be announced. He emphasized the importance of following official updates and making use of this additional period to ensure the procedures are completed smoothly.
Previously, on March 2 of last year, Central Bank Governor Abdulqader Al-Husri issued a decision to extend the currency exchange mandated under prevailing regulations for 60 days, effective from April 1. The exchange process had begun on January 1 and was initially set to last 90 days, subject to extension. Under the scheme, 100 Syrian pounds of the old currency are equivalent to one Syrian pound of the new currency.
