Microsoft publishes a code of conduct for artificial intelligence.

Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) division has published a code of conduct outlining how its AI models will operate, amid growing concerns about the risks of the technology.

The document is based on what Microsoft calls “Humanist AI,” systems designed to remain entirely under human control rather than operating autonomously.

The company explained that the guiding principle is that “humans are more important than AI.”

Microsoft partly attributed the timing to security concerns, citing recent large-scale, coordinated hacking campaigns carried out with the help of AI agents as evidence that the industry cannot afford to delay regulatory overhauls.

Microsoft’s announcement comes days after Anthropic CEO Dario Amode published an article urging AI companies to deliberately slow down the pace of model improvements, a call that quickly gained support on social media from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

The code of conduct will apply to Microsoft’s internal MAI models, which the company has positioned as an alternative to the OpenAI technology it has relied on for years
