Britain Provides $30.5 Million in Support to UNRWA

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced on Tuesday that the United Kingdom would provide £23 million ($30.5 million) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as part of its commitment to supporting Palestinians.
In a statement issued by the British government, Cooper said, “The United Kingdom is announcing a contribution of £23 million to UNRWA, alongside its international partners, to help sustain its vital work in providing support to Palestinian refugees across the region and to civilians in Gaza.”
She added, “The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is dire; families are in urgent need of food, shelter, clean water, and medical care. During my visit to Jordan, I personally witnessed the pivotal role UNRWA plays in delivering aid at the required scale.”
Cooper emphasized that “UNRWA must be able to operate safely and effectively,” while also condemning the actions of the Israeli occupation government toward relief agencies such as UNRWA, which have prevented them from carrying out their life-saving work, necessitating the opening of all crossings and allowing the entry of supplies.
The United Kingdom is scheduled to formally announce this commitment at the donors’ conference in New York later today, aiming to provide life-saving support to approximately six million Palestinian refugees across the region.
