2026 World Cup: Algeria exits in the Round of 32 after losing 2-0 to Switzerland

Algeria’s journey ended in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland on Friday in Vancouver, extending their hoodoo against European national teams.
The Desert Warriors failed to produce a performance worthy of advancing to the quarter-finals, which they have reached only once, at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They fell behind to a goal by Breel Embolo in the 10th minute before Dan Ndoye added a second in the 46th.
Switzerland will face the winner of Friday’s match between Colombia and Ghana in the quarter-finals, also in Vancouver on July 7.
