Al-Zaidi: Gulf States Are Our Arab Depth

Baghdad – Agencies: Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Idi affirmed yesterday his government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Gulf Arab countries, which he described as Iraq’s “Arab depth.” Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s commitment to all international resolutions concerning the agreement with Kuwait.
In a statement, the office of the Iraqi Prime Minister said that al-Idi received, yesterday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Al-Bedaiwi, and his accompanying delegation, who conveyed a message from the leaders of the GCC states congratulating al-Idi on securing the confidence of the Council of Representatives and forming the government.
The statement added that “during the meeting, relations between Iraq and the sister states of the Gulf Cooperation Council were discussed, along with ways to consolidate mutual cooperation in various fields, thereby enhancing common interests and supporting the foundations of development and prosperity.”
Al-Idi stressed “the government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Gulf countries, which represent Iraq’s Arab depth,” affirming that “Iraq will witness a new phase based on the foundations of building a modern state with full sovereignty, a robust economy, the rule of law, and respect for and consolidation of relations with its Arab, regional, and international environment.”
For his part, Al-Bedaiwi praised the reform steps initiated by the Iraqi Prime Minister to strengthen the economy, combat corruption, centralize weapons in the hands of the state, and build solid relations with Gulf Arab countries, expressing readiness to expand partnership with Iraq across various levels and fields.
For his part, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s commitment to all international resolutions concerning the agreement with Kuwait, while noting that Iraq is the “first victim” of the war in the region.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Dr. Al-Bedaiwi, Hussein said that “the visit of the GCC Secretary-General to Baghdad comes amid difficult circumstances facing the region,” affirming that “Iraq is committed to international resolutions and is ready for dialogue with Kuwait to reach decisions that serve the interests of both countries.”
Earlier, Iraqi President Nizar al-Amedi affirmed to the GCC Secretary-General that “Iraq’s security and the security of the GCC states are interlinked and shared.”
Al-Amedi and Al-Bedaiwi reviewed relations between the GCC and the Republic of Iraq, ways to develop and consolidate them, as well as discussing areas of joint coordination on various regional and international issues, and means to enhance security and stability in the region.
