The match proved tougher than Lionel Messi and his teammates had anticipated. Messi scored his seventh goal of the tournament to go top of the all-time scoring charts with 20 goals, before his teammates sealed the victory in the 111th minute.

As for Colombia, they confirmed their place in the Round of 16 with a 1-0 win over Ghana in Kansas City, setting up a meeting with Switzerland in the next round. With their victory, the final eight teams advancing to the Round of 16 were completed, marking the start of a new phase in the competition for the world title.
